OLD MAN WINTER HAS ARRIVED

That old ground hog wasn't kidding was he

old man winter slammed us with a vengeance.

As I was driving home (in all the madness) I was nervously watching other drivers

They would speed up, slow down , speed up slow down, Then they would brake hard.

That really isn't a great idea. 

This is what I've learned in my many years of driving  Yes I even spent 3 years in Alaska while in military.

First things first like always prepare, prepare and prepare again

  • Test your battery; battery power drops as the temperature drops
    • Make sure the cooling system is in good working order
    • Have winter tires with a deeper, more flexible tread put on your car
    • If using all-season tires, check the tread on your tires and replace if less than 2/32 of an inch
    • Check the tire pressure; tire pressure drops as the temperature drops
    • Check your wiper blades and replace if needed
    • Add wiper fluid rated for -30 degrees 
    • Finally keep you fuel tank at least half full to avoid gas line freeze.

                                                      Before You Start Out

    • Clean your car’s external camera lenses and side view mirrors so you’ll be able to see what’s around you
    • Remove dirt, ice and snow from sensors to allow the assistive-driving features like automatic emergency braking to work
    • In frigid weather, you may want to warm up the car before you drive it
    • To prevent carbon monoxide posioning  never leave a vehicle running in your garage – even with the garage door up
    • If the forecast looks iffy, wait out the storm if possible; if you must travel, share your travel plans and route with someone before you leave
    Finally Driving Safely 

                      

    • Avoid using cruise control in wintry conditions
    • Steer in the direction of a skid, so when your wheels regain traction, you don’t have to overcorrect to stay in your lane
    • Accelerate and decelerate slowly
    • Increase following distance to 8 to 10 seconds
    • If possible, don't stop when going uphill

      Hi! The things you shared here to maintain one's vehicle is very beneficial. That's right that elder people do it more religiously whether it is home or car what it is needed to maintain things years and years. But if youngsters also learn it at a young age then there will be huge tangible and intangible profits. The cooling system, tires, and their pressure, wiper blades, and fuel tank you discussed here to check against is really worth going. I am not that good at checking and fixing these issues and mostly rely on Car Service in Winnipeg for my car service and repair. Definitely going to learn about it soon.       Superb Post. You can prevent accidents, frozen windows and doors, no starts, and engine freeze-up by preparing your car for winter.     (Summer's Coming) Getting Ready For The Road  This past weekend my bitter half and I .. Oops I mean my better half and I hit the road for a couple's weekend retreat, It was a small one 500 miles round trip. I put My old trusty steed the gas hog in the garage and decide to rent a small compact economy car .
